Well, by me really.
This definitely comes from the Barry Windsor-Smith school more than the more often seen Frazetta or John Buscema versions. BWS's work on Conan completely blew me away at the age of around 11 when I first saw his adaptation of R E Howard's Frost Giant's Daughter in a British Marvel Comic reprint (possibly a Mighty World Of Marvel - I'm not sure). The artwork was exotic, highly detailed and looked like nothing I had ever seen in an American comic-book before. Over the next year I scraped together as much of his comic book and illustration work as I could get my hands on (not an easy task in the days before the internet and very few comic marts and comic stores). I'm still a fan today and I've retained my affection for his work on Conan The Barbarian and thanks to him I found Dave Sim's Cerebus (which became my favourite comic ever), The Pre-Raphelite Brotherhood, Jeff Jones, Michael Kaluta, Arthur Rackham and a desire to draw that has never gone away.
Thanks Barry - you're great.
